Tom Weir is probably best known for his long-running STV series ‘Weir’s Way’. He was born in Glasgow and served in the Royal Artillery during World War II. He worked as a surveyor for the Ordnance Survey before embarking on the career that was to make him a household name. Tom Weir is also notable as a mountaineer. Scope and Contents
Born in Aberdeenshire, Charles Murray went to South Africa in 1888, where he rose to be Deputy-Inspector of Mines for the Transvaal (1901) and Secretary for Public Works in the Union of South Africa (1910). He never lost touch with Scotland, and many of his poems are in the dialect of the north east.
